Nuevo Curriculum starts

++++++ PRESS RELEASE +++++++

THE EUROPEAN PROJECT NEW CURRICULUM STARTS IN THE REGION OF PICOS DE EUROPA TO PROPOSE THE STUDY PLANS THAT PUT IN VALUE THE RURAL CULTURE.

A committee of experts from all over Europe and Spain are meeting in Cangas de Onís from September 15-17 to discuss ways to teach and learn how to revitalize the rural environment, taking the Shepherds’ School as a case study.

Called by the non-profit organization Campo Adentro, which promotes the Shepherds’ School of Picos de Europa and with the support of the Foundation Daniel and Nina Carasso of France, the City Council of Cangas de Onis and other entities, the personalities will be for three days knowing and discussing how to bring the disciplines of art, science and traditional rural knowledge to compose knowledge and to train the cultural agents and rural development of the future that give future to the field.

The opening and welcome speech will be given by a representative of the Cangas de Onís Town Hall, and will be attended by, among others, the directors of the Niemeyer Center and the La Laboral Art Center, and representatives of the universities of Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Wageningen (Holland) and other museums.

Together with them, pastors from the Picos de Europa, local agents, and artists and art curators will exchange ideas and propose actions to define this new curriculum. In 2018 and 2019 the region will host the Applied Knowledge Meetings that will bring together students from different Spanish and European universities working side by side to establish the School of Pastors.

«It is this kind of serious projects and initiatives that must be carried out to confront the very serious situation in which the countryside finds itself in rural mountain areas. It is about starting to train professionals who work side by side with the sector, with listening and sensitivity to the problems and with imagination to think of ways to continue,» says a representative of Campo Adentro and of the Shepherd’s School, an educational and social project that began in 2004. «We are very grateful to this committee of wise men and women who are involved with the region and therefore give us the opportunity to be a pioneering reference for other mountain areas and teaching in our country and in Europe».

The promoters of the project and the members of the Scientific, Artistic and Rural Committee of the project will attend to the media on Friday, September 15, from 10:30 to 11 am in the library of the Monastery of San Pedro de Villanueva, where the first visit and day of the meeting will take place in the framework of the cultural meetings.
